Planning a Winter Wedding In Alberta? Worried About the Cold?

While winter weddings aren’t very popular in Alberta due to the sheer cold that we can have, they can be absolutely stunning! Planning a winter elopement and looking for a wedding photographer? I don’t shy away from the cold!

Lisa and Jared reached out to me literally two weeks before they planned to be married, not because of poor planning, but because they had just decided to go for it! Why wait?

They didn’t have many plans for their day, other than to tie the knot, but they dreamed of fresh falling snow, and a beautiful winter wedding. They certainly got what they hoped for!

Two days before their wedding, the fall landscape was covered in a fresh blanket of snow, and the temperature plummeted to low 20 degrees Celsius. Nothing was stopping them though, and the wedding went off as planned.

Lisa and Jared arrived with Jared’s family and the officiant at the parking lot of Chickakoo Lake in the early afternoon, bundled in snow gear. Everyone hurried down to the lake where the ceremony would take place, not wasting any time in the cold air.

How to plan a winter wedding in Alberta

They had a beautiful, intimate ceremony on the lakeshore, with breathes curling up in fog and smiles around. The little boy had fun playing in the fresh snow while Lisa and Jared said their vows. They also included a wine box ceremony.

After their short winter wedding, and the newlyweds Facetiming her family back in Germany, everyone warmed up in their vehicles before heading out on one of the trails for family portraits. But the cold was worth it for the beautiful snowy background. Jared had to show off his Simpson socks during the photo with him and his brothers!

The family left while Jared and Lisa took a quick warm up break again, and then we did a speed portrait session. Thankfully Lisa had a shawl she could wrap herself in to help keep her warm, but still was very cold!

After we finished (or at least as much as they could handle the cold), they departed for their honeymoon in Banff.

Kind words from the couple!
