5 Hidden Gems to Consider Eloping at in Alberta

When you choose to elope, it means you have the world at your fingers. You can literally choose almost any time and any place to get married. But just because you choose to elope doesn’t mean you have to go to the courthouse or somewhere boring to say your vows and officialize your marriage. In fact, unless the courthouse sounds really appealing to you and your significant other, I would recommend going almost anywhere else. This is your day, this is your time to shine and show your love for each other, and where are you show your love should be as epic and unique as the love you feel.

Here’s 5 hidden gems engaged couples should consider for an absolutely stunning, yet less known or sought after, elopement location.

  1. Jasper National Park

While not as popular as its partner to the south, Jasper National Park is just as stunning. With glorious rising mountains, bright blue lakes, beautiful meadows of wildflowers, and spectacular waterfalls, this national park holds all the intimacy and stunning views that you could ever want. Not to mention the park is massive, so you have so many options of where you could go and what background you want to be with. While some may not consider it a hidden gem, due to its vastness and status as a National Park, most forget to consider it in favour of Banff National Park.

2. David Thompson Country and Neighbouring Areas

In recent years, the area that is known as David Thompson Country has recently grown in popularity due to the popularity of random camping, however there is so many places within it that are absolutely secluded and completely natural that there is so much more to be seen than what the day-trippers find. With beautiful mountains, mountain lakes, and lush forests, there is so much variety for the avid outdoor lover. Abraham lake has been a popular spot recently due to the gorgeous bright blue colour and stunning vistas, however this is only one small highlight of this area. If you are looking for an amazing adventure elopement, this may be the perfect spot for you.

3. Drumheller

If you’re looking for more rugged and unique scenery, Drumheller and surrounding areas feature something you are unlikely to find elsewhere in the province. Also known for dinosaur bones and a rich Jurassic history, this place can feel like it’s from another world with the badlands and hoodoos throughout the scenery. If forest or mountains doesn’t speak to your soul, perhaps these will.

4. Sand Dunes near Hinton

While many in Alberta do not consider sand dunes to be one of our defining landscapes, believe it or not you can find them in our beautiful province. There are several places that you can find them, but if you want mountains in the background as well while digging your sand toes into the sand while you walk in your wedding dress, drive up past Hinton and experience it for yourself.

5. The Prairies

Again, perhaps not a hidden gem, but all too often overlooked, the prairies that span across Alberta provide a stunning landscape. Well they may not seem as spectacular at first, every Albertan will likely feel some instilled connection to the vast plains of the prairies. Whether you grew up on a farm, take weekly visits out to visit family, or simply enjoy the rich connection to nature, the prairies have it all. Whether you prefer crops blowing in the breeze, hay bales freshly laying out in the field, or livestock roaming through the grassland, you have your choice of scenery.
