Winter Adventure Elopement | Nordegg, Alberta

When I say this shoot was full of adventure, I’m not joking!

This styled shoot was fraught with issues, but we made sure to make it go off without a hitch!
The week before we planned for the shoot, we headed out on a roadtrip to scout out the location, do some planning, and in general just have a great day with our puppy! However, about 2/3rds of the way to the location (about 2.5 hours) the car started to overheat and give all sorts of issues. We limped it to the nearest town, ended up throwing in some coolant and chugging home at a whole 60km/h. So much for that trip…

So when we started off on shoot day, we were hoping for an amazing day to make up for the last attempt. At about almost the same spot as the car broke down the first time, we were met with blowing snow, slushy roads, and just generally crappy driving. After multiple back and forths, it was decided to keep going to our destination.

Lo and behold, about a half hour from our location, the sky cleared, the roads dried up, and the sun even attempted coming out! It was going to be beautiful!

Julie and CJ showed up shortly after, and we started the short hike into the canyon. A small, soft layer of snow had graced our arrival, covering the icy trail and most of the mud from the warm week.

We entered into the canyon, massive rock walls towering above us, the history of the place immense. It used to be used for training by the military, and the evidence still showed on the rock walls.

Julie and CJ celebrated their love for each other through adventure, experiencing somewhere new and amazing. A celebratory champagne pop end the hike, and some fantastic portraits against the Canadian Rockies.

Adventure elopements do not have to be a massive undertaking. They can simply be a short hike to a fantastic area, some vows, and some dancing in the snow. Whatever makes your heart sing, is how you should celebrate your love.
