Wedding Photos in the Lofoten Islands, Norway

If you are like me, then you dream of travelling daily. Stunning destinations, beautiful mountains, dramatic seascapes… If you have infinite wanderlust, then I am almost positive you’ve seen pictures of the stunning country of Norway, and highly likely as well that you have seen pictures of the infamous Lofoten Islands.

This little archipelago sits above the Arctic Circle, and is every photographer’s dream. So when we finally managed to reschedule our trip to Norway (postponed due the unspeakable havoc of the last two years), I could not miss a trip to this beautiful place.

Reasons to consider the Lofoten Islands (or Norway for that matter) for your elopement:

-       There is every kind of landscape imaginable

-       You can have a beach wedding, a mountain wedding, a fishing wedding, kayak… the possibilities are endless.

-       Norway prides itself on its outdoor nature and has all of the activities you could ever want to boot, so any adventure elopement you might want will be at your finger tips.

-       Even though Lofoten is above the Arctic Circle, the weather is mild. Summer days are an average of 15 degrees Celsius, with nights usually only dropping to a low of ten. And in the winter, temperatures don’t normally stray too far from freezing. Don’t let the temperature fool you though, the humidity tends to make the air feel cool. So if you don’t like the heat, and don’t want to sweat during your elopement, the chances are high in Lofoten.

-       The area is absolutely stunning (need I say more?)

-       You don’t need permits to get married literally anywhere, so pick your favorite location and go for it!

-       You may have friendly sheep join in as your witnesses (for context, keep reading…)

I could list a million reasons why you should elope in Lofoten (and why you should bring me along as your Lofoten Elopement Photographer), but instead, I will just show you.

As you can literally drive from one end of Lofoten to the other in approximately 3 hours, we were very willing to traverse the entire area for the perfect spot for these bridal shots. From the steep, craggy peaks near Reine, the shores of Uttakliev Beach… we had so many options. But unfortunately, we only had time for one, and the weather had to cooperate to make it happen.

The night before, the weather predicted a downpour, and on the mountains of Lofoten, mud could mean dangerous and slippery conditions, so with help from our local couple, we chose a couple of options, and waited to see how the rain would hold out form us.

It rained all morning, but by noon the skies dried up. We made plans to hike one of the more famous routes in Svolvær that evening, with fingers crossed that it wouldn’t start raining again.

We met Radka and Ivar at the trailhead, with a homemade bouquet of wildflowers and ferns, and started our ascent up Fløya, with a beautiful view of Svolværgeita.

With its Sherpa steps, the ascent up is no small feat, but it doesn’t take long before the views are absolutely worth it. Overlooking Svolvær and its neighboring islands with the sea out in the distance, it would take anyone’s breath away, if you aren’t already winded from the hike.

Since the trail was quite muddy after the ending of the Sherpa steps, we chose to end the hike early at a beautiful lookout. Radka changed from the hiking gear into the dress, grabbed the bouquet, and we proceeded to take photos in the beauty of the Lofoten Islands.

However, it wasn’t long before a friendly group of sheep joined the show, curious as to what the spectacle was. Eager to entice them, Radka offered them her bouquet, and several willing sheep came forth, and proceeded to chow down! I suppose it’s not often their mountain diet consists of wedding bouquets!

In true Norwegian spirit, the sheep finished their snack, and headed on their way, just as the most stunning light opened up in the valley.

We couldn’t contain our excitement. The rain, the clouds, the view, the light… it was drop dead gorgeous. And I have the proof.

So if you are considering an adventure elopement and need a nudge on where to elope in Norway, I highly recommend the Lofoten Islands. You will not regret your destination elopement in Norway, nor will you regret hiring an elopement photographer that focusses on capturing your love story as it unfolds.
